The terms "Latin," "Latino," and "Latina" are commonly used to refer to persons of Latin American descent. While used as roughly synonymous with the term "Hispanic," Latin includes Portuguese-speaking nations like Brazil as well as Spanish-speaking nations.
In the United States, the term is in official use in the ethnonym Hispanic or Latino, defined as "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race."
